Bluejays volleyball team wins two more

Gordanier, Willburn and Gutierrez lead Mancos to 2-1 week

Slowly but surely, the Mancos High School volleyball team is becoming accustomed to winning.

Opening last week in Dove Creek on Sept. 23, the Bluejays won in convincing fashion, defeating the overmatched Bulldogs, 25-15, 28-26, 25-14.

Leading the Bluejays offensively, Taryn Gordanier smashed 12 kills in the match.

Jessica Willburn led Mancos in digs with 24, while Jessica Gutierrez led the team in assists with 30.

Playing their second match of the week in Aztec on Sept. 25, Mancos lost for the third time this season, falling 25-29, 23-25, 25-15, 25-12.

Morgan Lincoln and Taryn Gordanier tied for the team lead in kills with 5, Willburn Mancos in digs with 30 and Gutierrez led the Bluejays in assists with 15.

Playing their final match of the week at home against Ouray on Sept. 26, Mancos came through with a dominant performance, winning 25-9, 25-10, 25-17.

Gordanier led the team in kills with 10, Willburn led the team in digs with 10, Maya Bonde and Taylor Goff each had three aces and Gutierrez had 23 assists.

With their record now at 8-3 on the season, the Bluejays will play in Telluride on Sept. 30 before returning home to face Ridgway on Oct. 3.
