Dolores Middle School/High School Councilor Jessica Read and a couple of other staff members from the secondary school will lead an UpStander training for students on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Dolores Public Library. This is part of the schools' bully-prevention strategies and is provided through a grant provided by the Colorado Education Initiative. The program teaches students how to stand up for those being bullied.

Report card time

At the Dolores Secondary schools level, report cards and CMAS results will be mailed next week. Elementary report cards are expected to arrive today, Oct. 23.

Move time

Sixth-grade students moved into new classrooms recently, making the transition from the middle school to the elementary. Principal Brandon Thurston says there's much excitement in the air.

"They love their new spaces," he said.

Fifth-grade students were expected to move into new rooms Wednesday.

Give them a hand

The FFA students just held their Green Hand Celebration and Creed Speeches. Students did a great job, Thurston said.

A new look for the library

During construction, the Middle School/High School library became a hodgepodge of sorts: a math classroom, a Spanish classroom and even a computer lab.

But now that construction is nearly complete, a committee has been formed and recently met to discuss how to bring it up to the 21st century. Everything from new paint and carpet, furniture, configurations and even art was discussed. The next steps include reaching out to students for their ideas.

The end is near

Friday night is the last football game of the season in Ignacio at 7 p.m. For those that can't attend, be sure to tune in to radio 93.3 or use a tune-in app and search 93.3 KKDC D'Crow to hear Ray McDonnell call the game.

High School volleyball has advanced to districts and will play Ridgway on Saturday.

Friday work days

Teachers are really finding their Friday Professional Learning Community time valuable, Thurston said. They have looked at the data, restructured course sequences and student placement based on need, provided staff with professional development, and helped to problem solve other issues at the schools. There will be another Professional Learning Community day on Oct. 24 (no school for students and work for the teachers).
