SCCC announces addition of instructors

Spring Devaux moved to Durango from Sedona, Ariz.. She is a Pueblo Community College Alumni with 17 years of nursing experience. She will teach nursing for the college this spring. Devaux earned a sociology degree from Fort Lewis College before earning her nursing credentials and becoming a labor and delivery nurse.

Bill Keehfuss has more than four decades of experience in Information Technology. He received his MBA in finance from Temple University. He served as the director of information services at Western New Mexico University in Silver City, N.M., and managed complex databases for over a decade. He was also lead database administrator at Fort Lewis College. He will teach five courses this spring in the fields of business, management and math. When he is not busy teaching, he plans to learn to kayak.

Joe Kelly graduated from Governors State University in Chicago, specializing in secondary mathematics education. He will teach math literacy on the West Campus in Mancos. He lives locally in Dolores, where he enjoys fishing, skiing and hiking.

Christine Trout brings more than two decades of art education experience into the classroom. She will teach drawing in Durango this spring. Originally from New Mexico, Trout graduated from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, where she studied drawing and painting. She received a master's in art education from National University in Fresno, Calif., and has taught art to almost every age of student.

MaryLynn Herr will teach art history from ancient to medieval periods for the college in Durango. She brings nearly three decades of experience to the college, as well as degrees from Framingham State University, University of New Mexico and Northern Arizona University. She has won awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Association for Gifted Children. Herr grew up in New Mexico and now lives in Bayfield.

Amy Bulloch has more than a dozen years of experience as an X-ray technician. She has also spent half a decade working as an educator. Bulloch will teach introduction to radiology this spring at the Durango campus. She says her most important accomplishment has been helping train students. She earned her initial credentials at Weber State University in radiological sciences. She is a licensed radiologist, is registered in radiology and CT by ARRT and is a member of ACERT.

Tanya Amrine, who grew up in Cortez, graduated from Fort Lewis College with a bachelor's degree in humanities and early childhood education. She earned a master's degree in Education Leadership and Special Education Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. She is licensed to be a principal and administrator as well as a teacher, and has worked in her field for nearly two decades, and is currently education director for the Ute Mountain Utes. She will teach early childhood education in Mancos this spring.

Lorence Lapow earned his master's in social work from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, after receiving bachelor's degrees in Social Welfare and Sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He will teach courses in sociology and social work.

Jeff Muller of Mancos has a bachelor's degree in architecture, and taught AutoCAD classes in high schools for 14 years. In addition, he has more than 30 years of experience as an architectural designer and project manager. He will teach a computer-aided design course utilizing a 3D printer in Mancos.

John Welty is returning to teach math literacy in Durango after taking a short break from teaching for the college. He enjoys teaching young adults and seeing them gain confidence in mathematics. Before coming to the college, he was previously CEO of a farmer market cooperative. Welty is from Modesto, Calif. He earned a bachelor's degree of science from U.C. Berkeley and a master's of science from Utah State University.

David McKnight is also returning to teach for the college this spring, where he first began teaching more than two decades ago. Originally from Georgia, McKnight now lives locally in Bayfield. He has a master's degree in reading and English education and has been recognized in the past for his teaching abilities by being nominated as teacher of the year.
