Don't be surprised this weekend if you see some unusual things happening in Mancos.

You may see a bed race down Grand Avenue and quite a few people dressed as superheroes.

It's the 6th Annual Mancos Melt, a fun-filled event that will benefit the Mancos School of the West and the Mancos Valley Historical Society this year. It runs March 5-7.

The Melt starts on Thursday, March 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Olio, 114 W. Grand Ave. There will be a superhero costume contest and wine and hors d'oeuvres. The cost is $25.

On Friday, March 6, a local cast and the variety show will be at the Mancos Opera House titled "Cowboy Kidnapping Mystery." Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $15 per adult and $5 per child. The Last Nickel will play at the Columbine starting at 9 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, March 7, is the Grand Avenue bed race. Beds, provide by Rustic Style Furniture, will be pushed down the street with one team member on the bed and all members participating in an obstacle course.

It costs $50 for a five-person team to enter. Entry deadline is 9:45 a.m. at Olio. The races are scheduled 10 a.m. to noon.

Also on Saturday is a annual bird feeder contest. Those entering their bird feeder art must have entered at Raven House Gallery by Friday, March 6, the art will be on display outside the gallery.

There will be a chili cook-Ooff at Artisans of Mancos at 11 a.m., and a golf tournament at the Columbine at 1 p.m. Each golf hole is located in a different downtown establishment. Sign up at Fahrenheit Coffee. It's $20 per two-person team.

At the Millwood Restaurant on Saturday, don't miss the 32nd Millwood Junction Follies. Doors open at 4 p.m., and the Follies begin at 7 p.m. The silent auction includes a Yukon raft from Alpaca Raft, Getaway packages from Moab and Pagosa, a Quadra-fire direct vent room heater, jewelry from local artists, rings from Garcia & Co., Rockies tickets, a ton of pellets from Western Excelsior, Artisans of Mancos, a horse massage, dog grooming, $100 off from Integrity Glass, beauty packages and more.

"There is lots of really good stuff, so come over and bid on it," said Dana Weaver.
