Quartetto Gelato, known for its clever programming and virtuosity, will take the stage at the MCHS Auditorium on Monday, March 30 at 7 p.m. This exciting quartet consists of violinist/tenor Peter DeSotto, leader of the ensemble; accordion champion Alexander Sevastian; cellist Elizabeth McLellan and oboist Colin Maier.

SouthWest Colorado Concerts brings Quartetto Gelato to Cortez as part of its current concert series.

Virtuosic showpieces, romantic tenor arias, pyrotechnical solos, blazing gypsy show pieces, multi-instrument mastery and a World Accordion Champion – this is Quartetto Gelato.

For nearly two decades, this dazzling ensemble has enchanted international audiences and critics with its exotic blend of musical virtuosity, artistic passion and humor. Classical in training – eclectic by design – Quartetto Gelato thrills audiences with multi–instrument mastery and the bonus of a brilliant operatic tenor.

With a repertoire that includes classical masterworks, operatic arias, sizzling tangos, gypsy and folk songs, the group’s theatrical stage presence and relaxed humor establishes an intimate rapport with audiences.

Quartetto Gelato established itself as a dominant force on the music scene early on by winning the coveted title of NPR Performance Today’s Debut Artist of the Year. In 2007, the group’s first DVD Quartetto Gelato: A Concert in Wine Country! was picked by PBS for broadcast throughout the U.S. Quartetto Gelato is heard regularly on CBC and numerous other classical radio stations. Its eight CDs have sold over 150,000 units to date, and the ensemble has been featured on the Hollywood soundtrack “Only You.”
