With many of their top athletes resting in anticipation of the state meet, the Mancos High School girls and boys track teams traveled to Pagosa Springs to compete in the Terry Alley Invitational on May 2.

"The weather did not cooperate," said Bluejays head coach Brady Archer. "We had intermittent rain, wind and two lighting delays."

Among the top finishers on the girls side were Kaylee Rose, who placed sixth in the 800-meter run (2:45.52) and Olivia Winter-Holm, who finished 10th in the discus (80 feet) and tied for 15th in the shot put (25 feet, 4 ½ inches).

Also cracking the top 15 for the girls were Taylor Goff and Jessica Gutierrez, who finished 12th (20.51) and 13th (20.84), respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles.

"Overall, the meet was a good chance for some of our younger runners who won't travel to Grand Junction to end their season to end their seasons on a high note," said Archer. "I appreciate all of the hard work that these athletes put into practice and the meets."

The Mancos boys were led by Nigel Henry, who placed ninth in the high jump (5 feet, 3 inches).

Jake McKie finished 11th in the 3200-meter run (11:48.62); Asa Kearns placed 12th in the 3200-meter run (11:53.45); and Zane Goodell placed 13th in the 3200-meter run (12:19.48).

Brandon Hood-Farley finished 14th in the 110-meter hurdles (21.89) and Kole Romero Keller finished 15th in the same event (23.82).

Next up for the Mancos boys and girls track teams will be the Grand Junction Tiger Invitational, which will take place in Grand Junction, May 8-9.

"We will see what they can do this weekend in Grand Junction to qualify for the state," said Archer. "This weekend will be the last chance that our athletes have to qualify."
