The show goes on

Gloomy weather didn't stop Mancos' July 4th fireworks show
About 100 spectators watched as The Mancos Fire Protection District launched the July 4th fireworks Saturday at Boyle Park.

A crowd of about 100 braved wind and rain Saturday night in Mancos to see the annual July 4th fireworks show at Boyle Park.

The pyrotechnic extravaganza began a little after 9 p.m. with the singing of the National Anthem and a moment of silence for veterans.

Although the pre-dusk rain caused a few onlookers to leave early, those who hung around found it to be worth the wait.

Glittering brocades, palms and starbursts lit up the valley for nearly an hour.

"This was one of the longest shows I've seen," said Cara Kraft, a spectator.

The donation-funded spectacle is put on every year by the Mancos Fire Protection District. Community donations were collected by Mancos Valley Bank, and the National Honor Society held a carwash last month in support of the fireworks fund.
