Mancos Valley Resources awarded $5,000 grant

Mancos Valley Resources, a pass-through fiscal sponsor for grants and donations in Mancos and Montezuma County, was awarded a $5,000 Anschutz grant in June for administrative overhead.

The grant allows MVR to continue to support its sponsored projects and to offer Mini Grants of up to $300.

MVR, which provides support during the grant-writing process, oversight of necessary financial review, and tax reporting for sponsored projects, also recently served as the pass-through fiscal sponsor for a generous donation to Heart of the World, now the Mother Earth Restoration Trust. Mother Earth Restoration focuses on developing sustainable agriculture using traditional ago-ecological practices and heritage seed libraries, as well as serving as a think tank and demonstration site for indigenous tenets of land stewardship. The Mother Earth Restoration Trust is a subset of the United Nations Hydrological Initiative.

In August, MVR will be the primary recipient of proceeds generated from the first annual Mancos Brewfest, to be held at Cottonwood Park on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 1 to 7 p.m.

The Mancos Brewfest, sponsored by the Mancos Brewing Co., will feature local music and regional beer sampling. Partial proceeds also will benefit the development of the Mancos River Trail. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Kids 12 and under are free.
